HTX Display Panels
I was tasked with designing an interactive touchscreen panel for HTX’s Innovation Gallery, aimed at showcasing their cutting-edge technologies and products developed for Singapore’s Home Team. The touchscreen installation was intended to be a self-guided, exploratory experience for visitors, providing an engaging and intuitive way to discover HTX’s key contributions across domains such as forensics, robotics, surveillance, and more.
01
Objectives
-
Engage Visitors: Create an interactive and visually compelling interface that captures attention and invites participation.
-
Simplify Complex Information: Present technical content and diverse innovations in a way that is digestible for both laypeople and professionals.
-
Highlight HTX’s Domains: Structure content clearly across categories like forensics, robotics, surveillance, etc., making it easy for users to navigate.
-
Deliver an Intuitive User Experience: Ensure the touchscreen panel is accessible and easy to use for all ages and tech comfort levels.
-
Support a Narrative Flow: Allow for both guided and exploratory interaction modes to suit different visitor preferences.
02
Design Approach
-
I approached the design with a user-centered, story-driven methodology, placing emphasis on clarity, interaction flow, and visual impact. The interface needed to function seamlessly within a public space, balancing accessibility and sophistication.
-
Key design principles included:
-
Clear Visual Hierarchy: Prioritizing information structure through color, typography, and layout.
-
Interactive Hotspots and Animations: Using touch-based triggers, smooth transitions, and subtle animations to enhance engagement.
-
Modular Content Cards: Breaking down complex innovations into digestible cards with visuals, headlines, and brief summaries.
-
Domain-based Navigation: Categorizing information into clear, themed sections so users can easily explore areas of interest.
-
High-contrast, Responsive UI: Ensuring good readability and touch accuracy on large displays in varying lighting conditions.
03
Goals
-
Create an experience that educates and inspires visitors about HTX’s technological advancements.
-
Deliver a seamless, intuitive interface tailored for a touchscreen environment.
-
Design a modular, scalable system allowing easy updates and content expansion in the future.
-
