NUH Wayfinding

Navigating NUH’s large campus can be challenging, causing delays and frustration for patients and visitors. This project introduces a QR code-based wayfinding web app to simplify navigation and improve the visitor experience.

01

Problem Statement

The National University Hospital (NUH) in Singapore is a large campus with multiple buildings, making navigation difficult for patients and visitors. This leads to delays, frustration, and inefficiencies. A simple and effective solution is needed to improve wayfinding and enhance the visitor experience.

02

Primary Users

  • Visitors: Relatives or friends of patients coming to the hospital for visits.

  • Patients: Individuals arriving for check-ups, diagnostic tests, or other healthcare services.

03

 Goals

For Users:

  • Access clear, easy-to-follow navigation with visual guidance.

  • Reduce confusion and stress while navigating the hospital.

  • Monitor their progress with the distance and time-to-arrival feature.

For the Hospital:

  • Enhance visitor satisfaction by improving navigation efficiency.

  • Reduce staff burden related to guiding visitors.

  • Implement a scalable, low-maintenance solution.

04

Process

QR Code Placement:

  • Install QR codes at exits, entrances, lobbies, elevators, and other key junctions.

Web App Features:

  • Virtual Tour Guidance: Pre-recorded video tours of paths to key locations.

  • Timeline Feature: Displays remaining walking distance and estimated time to arrival.

  • Tap on the ward: Allows users to locate destinations by ward.

Implementation Steps:

  • Survey the campus to identify critical QR code placement points.

  • Record virtual tours of common routes within the hospital.

  • Develop and test the app with user feedback for refinements.
